IKEA – the furniture giant has long been known for its creative and practical advertising campaigns for users. Recently, the company’s branch in Sweden came up with a unique idea to turn ordinary window blinds into special advertising signs.
From empty windows – an “ideal” but untapped Advertising space, IKEA Sweden teamed up with Agency Åkestam Holst NoA to create a special campaign to take advantage of those windows. The Brand kicked off with a Video recruiting “sleepfluencers” on paid media. Immediately, IKEA received an enthusiastic response from the user community and randomly selected lucky customers to invite them to become “brand ambassadors”.
Selected customers will receive a free roller blind if they turn their windows into an IKEA “billboard” while they sleep. Interestingly, the blinds are printed with images and prices of IKEA’s signature bedroom furniture line, such as pillows, blankets, and mattresses, along with the slogan “Good nights make better days.” When customers pull down the blinds, the outside of the blind automatically turns into an IKEA billboard.
Windows are “transformed” into billboards for IKEA
Jonas Westberg – Head of Marketing Communications at IKEA Sweden, shared: “This is our way of thanking our customers and increasing brand awareness in a new and Creative way. This campaign helps people sleep better while promoting our affordable products to more people.”
Meanwhile, for the agency that collaborated with IKEA on this campaign, Michal Sitkiewicz – one of the creatives at Åkestam Holst NoA, said: “As with every campaign, we wanted to highlight the essence of IKEA’s Democratic Design – making great products accessible to everyone. This campaign is a vivid example of how we turn a simple, everyday product into something both practical and innovative.”
With its unique idea, IKEA not only provides curtains for customers to sleep well but also “maximizes” the space for its outdoor advertising billboards. The presence of IKEA furniture products on windows across Sweden quickly attracted the attention and interest of the public. The campaign once again affirms the boundless creativity of the IKEA team, and above all, it also shows the brand’s commitment to bringing smart and highly applicable design solutions to users’ lives.
IKEA Sweden and Åkestam Holst NoA have collaborated on a previously successful outdoor advertising project. Specifically, IKEA installed a giant mirror called “Nissedal” to reflect bright sunlight into outdoor cafes. This solution has dispelled the gloomy summer days in Sweden and brought a warmer and more energetic atmosphere to the people here.
Summarize:
IKEA Sweden, with its campaign to thank customers with curtains and invite them to become its brand ambassadors, has successfully exploited a potential advertising space – window frames. Turning them into outdoor billboards is a testament to IKEA’s creativity and dedication to creating practical products that serve the lives of users. Through this, the brand’s bedroom furniture product lines are not only widely distributed but also help IKEA increase its brand love among customers.
